What to Expect as an MGA Parent

For Parents:

We believe very strongly in the philosophy, “coaches coach, players play and parents cheer”. Part of what we do is to help your child grow not only with technical skills and volleyball knowledge but also how to speak for themselves: to be accountable for communicating when they will miss a practice, need help with a situation or skill, what they want out of their experience with their team, when they are struggling and why…we want to hear it from them.

If a difficult situation arises, we want the players to speak with the coach first, then if need be the parents can contact the coach and Fabian if necessary.

It needs to be understood that playing time is never 100% equal but all players will have a role on their team and coaches will try to work on substitutions and rotations that generally “even out” but 100% equal playing time is not realistic in the sport of volleyball.

Parents are welcome to be at practices but we do not encourage interaction during the practice; let them learn without looking over their shoulder to see what you think. Please Visit our Player Expectations Page to Understand What is expected of an MGA Player.

At Tournaments:

Our coaches treat these girls as their own; they will always look out for them: they will handle any and all situations with officials, other teams, other players or parents. Parents will NOT disrespect the other team or officials (especially when they are players). Our club parents are never allowed to interact in a negative way with the other teams (coaches, players  or other parents) or officials.

Our coaches know what to do, how to handle and when to involve the tournament director.

What parents should expect from the coaches and MGA:

Preparation; communication and transparency.

Coaches should communicate schedules and plans early and often. They should be prepared for practices and tournaments. They should provide positive, specific feedback to each player about skills, attitude and ways to improve on both.

MGA should be transparent about fees, schedules and plans and communicate as often as possible about any changes.

PARENTS AND ATHLETES

Parents and athletes need to manage their SportsEngine accounts to ensure they get the most out of their MGA Volleyball experience during each sporting season. With their accounts properly configured, athletes and their families will receive communications according to their preferences and be able to complete registrations more efficiently.  SportsEngine has created a Team Management Guide for Parents and Athletes that will help our members with frequently asked questions about our website and mobile app.
